Custom Systems & Sub-systems
Periodically, a customer comes to MeiVac needing a system to meet their unique needs. This could be a processing requirement, special material handling requirement or other issues such as automation. Applications range from high volume production to lower volume pilot line or specialty R&D. One manufacturing application required a 900 substrate per hour (1 every 4 seconds) metallization module for a larger CD production line. Another involved a high volume battery bake-out system for a mobile phone manufacturer. A unique R&D application required a multi-source deposition system that was depositing multiple layers on large moving substrates that weighed more than 200 lb each. Other applications such as environmental/altitude simulation chambers have been common.
In other cases, a customer has a system that he wants to use but can't without some form of upgrade or optimization. He or she brings their requirement to MeiVac who works with them to specify the need, create the design, fabricate the upgrade and install it. This is common in a number of markets, most recently solar where solar cell equipment designs are evolving at a very rapid pace.
Finally, some customers are systems manufacturers themselves. They recognize MeiVac's engineering and manufacturing skills, and as us to not only help design a sub-system, but manufacture it in volume to install in the systems they sell.
Most of these custom systems and sub-systems are designed and built by MeiVac. However, there have been instances where a customer has a design that MeiVac fabricates builds and tests.
